A field guide for local business owners

The review nobody answered is costing you the sale

Every customer builds a shortlist before they call. Your reviews decide whether you're on it. Now AI builds the shortlist too: Google's AI reads your ratings and reviews, and Yelp reviews show up inside ChatGPT's answers.

The Review ACES are four levers every local business controls in its online reviews: Ask, Consistency, Engage, and Solve. You can't write your own reviews. Please don't try. You can play these four.

    Lever one

Ask: get more customers to write

Ask means requesting a review from every customer at the moment they're happiest. Most happy customers never think to leave one. They need a nudge at the right time.

Ask while the floor is still dry: at checkout, at the end of the job. Not with a survey a week later.

The rule: On Google, ask everyone, not just the happy ones, and never pay for a review. On Yelp, don't ask at all. Yelp forbids it and hides reviews it thinks you prompted.

    How VibeWaggler plays this card

It turns happy customers into reviews, asking at the right moment so nobody on your team has to remember.

    Lever two

Consistency: keep reviews recent and steady

Consistency means a steady flow of new reviews every week, not bursts. Twenty reviews in one week, then silence, looks like a campaign. Two a week, every week, looks like a business people actually use.

It also keeps you current. Customers check the date on a review the way you check the date on a milk carton: 74% look for reviews written in the last three months.

The rule: Build the ask into every job, so freshness takes care of itself.

    How VibeWaggler plays this card

Vibe Pulse shows review volume and momentum week over week, per location or crew. You see the pace slip before your customers do.

    Lever three

    Engage: reply to every review

Engage means replying to every review, good and bad, in your own voice. Replies barely move the algorithm. They move the human. Your reply is for the next hundred people deciding whether to call you.

When hotels started replying, they earned 12% more reviews and 0.12 more stars. Angry guests held back quick, unfair complaints once they knew a manager was reading.

    89%

    expect you to reply

    80%

favor businesses that reply to every review

    50%

are put off by copy-paste replies

The rule: No copy-paste replies. Someone who knows the business reads every reply before it posts, especially the angry ones.

    How VibeWaggler plays this card

AI drafts every reply in your voice. Nothing posts until someone on your team approves it. Every review gets an answer, and nobody stays late to write it.

    Lever four

Solve: fix what reviews keep saying

Solve means fixing the problem your reviews keep naming, in the operation, not the reply box. Reviews are free market research. Customers tell you, in public, what to fix.

Eleven reviews this quarter say "never called back." The fix isn't a better reply. It's a better dispatcher.

The rule: Once a month, read reviews for patterns, not one at a time. Pick one fix. Then mention it in your replies.

    How VibeWaggler plays this card

Ask VibeChat "What are the three biggest drivers of one-star reviews this month?" and get the answer from your own reviews. The Sentiment Report scores every review against the five things you care about, so you know what to fix first.

You don't need a bigger budget. You need to play your ACES

See your ACES in your own reviews. Thirty minutes. Your real reviews. No pitch.
